‘Coast Guard expects to allow 4th of July fireworks shows on the water
The U.S. Coast Guard said today it intends to grant permits to four cities seeking to launch fireworks from ocean barges on the holiday.
The U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday it intends to issue permits by June 26 to four cities seeking to launch fireworks from ocean barges after environmental protection rules are finalized.
The Coast Guard has applications from Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Pompano Beach, and could have revoked a permit already issued for Delray Beach.
“The merchants that stay open July 4th tell us it’s their biggest day of the year,” Ferrer said. “The hotels are full and the businesses rely on it, even more in this economy. You’ve got 100,000 people walking past stores twice. It’s great for family reunions and is a total community event.”‘
