OPTIMISTIC PREDICTIONS…

KEN KAYE”S LOOKING AHEAD…..
‘Joe Bastardi has come out with a somewhat optimistic forecast for the 2009 hurricane season.
As AccuWeather.com’s chief hurricane forecaster, he calls for four tropical systems to “impact” the U.S. coast, including three hurricanes, with one of those being major.
But overall, he’s calling for a total of 13 named storms, including eight hurricanes, with two of those being major.
Further, Bastardi thinks Atlantic storms will form closer to the U.S. coastline than they did last year. That would imperil the Mid Atlantic and Northeast coastline more so than Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, as shown in the AccuWeather graphic at right.
Bastardi’s reasoning:
– La Niña will dissipate.
– An increase in Saharan dust and dry air will hamper storms in the Atlantic.
– Water temperatures in the deep tropical Atlantic will cool a bit.
.Bastardi’s track record and found his seasonal forecasts in the past few years have been all told, spotty.
Keep in mind: Unlike other forecasters – government and private included – Bastardi predicts a specific number of U.S. strikes. That’s pretty daring.’
