“Johnnie” We Hardly Knew Yee….Was Missing In Action…

March 31, 2009 by Barbara

BC- Gone but not forgotten…So where’s the painting of “Bob’s Barricades” at?…..

‘In cases where work stopped suddenly, many portable-toilet companies were stuck holding the bill. They still had to pay to have units cleaned and hauled back to their storage site. “Everything we put out there is not reusable,” Carroll said.

Portable toilets are a $1.5 billion-a-year business, and the trade group estimates almost 1.5 million units are in service. For most operators, providing portable toilets for construction sites accounts for 70 percent of their business. The remaining 30 percent comes from special events such as golf tournaments and fairs.’

Come On Down….Have I Got A Guarrantee For You, My Friend…

March 30, 2009 by Barbara

BC- With the “Shamoo” guy in trouble in Miami…after a 4 year term…who knows we could have the next “Billy Mays” in the Oval office?….

‘Is it safe to buy a new car from General Motors or Chrysler right now? President Obama says it is and he is putting money up to guarantee it.

In an attempt to persuade wary buyers, the federal government on Monday committed to honoring new warranties, even if the issuing car manufacturer fails.

“Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it’s ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warranty,” President Obama said on Monday’

Entourage….

March 29, 2009 by Barbara

BC- Here they come……

‘More than 500 officials and staff will accompany the president on his tour this week – along with a mass of high-tech security equipment, including the $300,000 presidential limousine, known as The Beast. Fitted with night-vision camera, reinforced steel plating, tear- gas cannon and oxygen tanks, the vehicle is the ultimate in heavy armoured transport.

In addition, a team from the White House kitchen will travel with the president to prepare his food. As one official put it: “When the president travels, the White House travels with him, right down to the car he drives, the water he drinks, the gasoline he uses, the food he eats. America is still the sole superpower and the president must have the ability to handle any crisis, anywhere, any time.”‘

Those Yellow Teeth Can Drive You To Robbery

March 27, 2009 by Barbara

BC-Maybe a dentist could just offer pro-bono work?….

‘The trail of robberies committed by a bandit with a trademark dirty smile has caught the attention of the FBI, which is now aiding Broward and Palm Beach County law enforcement officials hunting for him.

Dubbed the “Rotten Teeth Robber” by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the man struck three Bank of America branches Thursday: one in Tequesta and one in West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County, then another bank in Deerfield Beach. He is said to be in his mid 40’s, about 5-foot-7 and of thin build. His outfits differ at every heist, though he often wears a beige baseball cap, according to surveillance footage taken at several banks.

And tellers have all described him as having unsightly, decayed teeth.’

Oh Those Kids….

March 26, 2009 by Barbara

CHECK YOUR ROOF LATELY?….

BC-You know they say to get into college these days you need a story…sort of like “Risky Business”….Well looks like this kid has one!…

‘A teenager inspired by an ancient fertility symbol has painted a 60ft-long phallus on the new roof of his parents £1million house.

Rory McInnes, 18, decided to give aerial observers an eyeful, with the aid of a tin of white paint, after watching a documentary on Google Earth.

But the imposing member remained a closely-guarded secret for a year before it was ‘discovered’ by a helicopter pilot flying over the area, who let his passengers take photos.’

It’s Good To Be Town Manager…..

March 25, 2009 by Barbara

WHAT’S IN YOUR WALLET?….

BC- It “pays”  to be in government…Does Hallandale Beach have a Town Manager annual performance review?….

From Bob Norman…..Town Manager Good…must really be “good”….

‘it appears that Good’s base salary is $191,000. That’s a nice pile of cash on its own, but it’s roughly the scale that people in his important position can expect.

The real puzzler is the payout Good received for vacation and sick time. For vacation, the document indicates Good was paid a whopping $100,000. For sick time, $75,500. In total, that means that nearly half of Good’s gross income came from cashing in vacation and sick time.

There are other perks. A “longevity” category adds another $2,700. Presumably, it’s the reward that comes from having been employed for a long time with the city. Good was formerly the public works director.’

“Universal” Politician Heath Care…Has My Vote…

March 25, 2009 by Barbara

BC- Is Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman- Schultz brave?……Yep….and lucky…She had the kind of health insurance that we all want to have…but not the kind that will soon be available to other women who will have to walk in her “shoes”….once “Universal Health Care”…is the norm….

Just like Senator Ted Kennedy…when he was diagnosed…Congresswoman Schultz was able to “schedule” her treatment….to choose the top drawer facility of her choice…which afforded her the best treatment available….due solely to her “position”…and the package offered to our elected officials  in their health coverage…

How did she do it?…Keep it under “wraps”…for so long…according to her interviews….

‘She scheduled her treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., during congressional recesses so she wouldn’t miss votes in Congress.’

Will that be the same type of health plan she offers to those she represents?….

Don’t hold your breath….

Red Light…Green Light…

March 24, 2009 by Barbara

STOP….MAYBE?……….

BC—NOT SO FAST…Sort of like those drivers who just have to pull out in front of you when there isn’t a car behind you for miles! Ahhh…the human condition….

‘The Philadelphia study, conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry group, examined red light violations using a two-step approach. First, researchers found that violations dropped by 36% after yellow lights were extended to give drivers more warning that the light was about to turn red. After red light cameras were added, remaining violations dropped by 96%.

“There’s a dramatic change in driver behavior when red light cameras are used,” says Richard Retting, senior transportation safety engineer for IIHS. “The jury is in on that question.”

The Virginia Beach study, conducted by Old Dominion University, examined signal violations at four intersections before red light cameras were installed, while they were operating and after they were removed in 2005. Violations more than tripled by August 2006.

“That’s a huge jump,” says lead researcher Bryan Porter, an associate professor of psychology at Old Dominion. “The rate of red light running was actually higher” than before the cameras were installed.’
